The European Investment Bank (EIB)

The European Investment Bank has a long track record in microfinance. It helps leading microfinance providers, investment fund managers and other stakeholders to increase sustainable and responsible access to finance for micro and small-sized enterprises. In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), the EIB is one of the largest microfinance lenders with a total portfolio at end-2014 of EUR 36.5 million committed in microfinance providers, supporting over one million borrowers. Using EU resources, we target small operations presenting very high value added, often at crucial points in the life of the microfinance institutions, through tailor-made financial instruments.
